Ihaenacho becomes the first ever player to score the first VAR goal in English football
Super Eagles forward and Leicester City player, Kelechi Iheanacho scored the first goal given by VAR in English football during Leicester’s FA Cup clash against Fleetwood.
VAR means Video Assistant Referee.
Iheanacho went on to score only to see the linesman raise his flag to signal for offside.
But the referee, Jon Moss went to video assistant referee Mike Jones who ruled Iheanacho was actually onside – the goal being awarded one minute and 44 seconds after the ball hit the back of the net.
Fleetwood Town’s official Twitter account took a swipe at how long it took for the decision to be made.
The 77th-minute goal was Iheanacho’s second of the night after he opened the scoring in the 43rd minute.
The Sportsman tweeted; "Iheanacho has become the first player in English football history to be given a goal by VAR Get ready to hear that at every pub quiz you ever attend from now on."
The match e with Leicester City scoring two goals by Ihaenacho in the 43rd and the 77th minute and Fleetwood with no goal. Leicester City 2 - 0 Fleetwood.
