Nigeria fianlly takes delivery of covid-19 vaccine (Video+Photos)

 

Nigeria has finally received its first batch of the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The 3.92 million doses of the vaccines arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on board an Emirates Boeing 777-300 on Tuesday afternoon March 2.

Nigeria did not purchase these vaccines. The vaccines were donated to Nigeria through the COVAS initiative put together by the World Health Organization (WHO) and GAVI to get the vaccines distributed to low income countries.  Ghana was the first country in Africa to get the vaccines under the COVAS initiative.

The Federal government has said health care workers will first be vaccinated.
